Question about the Guide Rod on a Colt Pony Pocketlite

Hello all,

I have a newly aquired Colt Pony Pocketlite in .380 acp. It's a nice little pistol, but I'm thinking about replacing the guide rod, which is plastic, with one that is aluminum. I have access to a lathe and some aluminum stock and I'm wondering if it's safe to make one myself. If not, does someone sell metal guide rods for the Colt Pony Pocketlite?

Scott & McDoual and Assoc. make replacememt parts for the Colt Mustang/Pony pistols. They catalog a steel guide rod for the .380 Colt Pistols..

Go for the ss guide rod that Mark mentioned. My Dad has one on his Mustang and it works just fine. It even slicks the action up a little.
 
I've had a Mustang for three years. Great little pistol, just the thing for summer carry. I've often thought about the plastic guide rod. However, so far so good. The guide rod offered by S&McD looks pretty good and they also make a metal trigger to replace the plastic one in the Mustang. I'll probably get both one of these days.
My Glock also has a plastic guide rod. I think about replacing that also.

If you plan on carrying the Pony or Mustang, I'd suggest SM&A's PCP (Pocket Carry Package). I had my Mustang done, and it made a large difference in an already neat little gun. Check out their website at www.colt380.com for the details of what's included.
 
I have one of those guide rods for a Mustang I used to have, and one in one of my Colt Govt. .380's. The only thing I would caution is that you consider a stiffer recoil spring because the guide rod will be harder and heavier than your Pocketlite's frame material.
