question about skinner sight for Marlin 1894c

I'm ordering a Skinner aperture sight for my Marlin 1894c, and I'm wondering if I'll need to replace the front sight as well. Anyone familiar with this?

Since the regular Skinner 1894 receiver peep sight (not the LoPro) is much higher than the issus sight's line-of-sight, you WILL need a front sight blade appropriately higher than issue height, in order to zero the rifle, or it will shoot too high with the peep all the way "down".

If you ordered your Skinner directly from Skinner, they will also supply you with the proper height front sight blade for about an extra $15.

It's also a good time to consider whether /not you might also want to (at the same time) change the front sight material - you can pick from Ivory bead (fine/coarse), Gold bead (F/C), Fiber-optic (F/C, red or green), vertical white line (XS), or sourdough patridge (Skinner, Marbles, NECG).

BTW - Don't forget to either order a slot filler blank ($6), or file one up from an old longleaf rear sight's male dovetail - to fill the empty rear sight barrel slot.
(You ARE going to remove the rear barrel sight for a clean sight picture, aren't you ?)

.

If you order an elevation-adjustable LoPro, it will screw directly into one of the scope mount holes (rearmost=best) - and zero OK using the issue height front sight.
When using the LoPro in the rear, windage is adjusted by moving the front sight - usually very minimally (under 1/8") if at all.

thanks for the reply. Yes, I plan to remove the factory barrel-mounted rear sight. Is there any trick to doing that?

I should have mentioned that the rear sight I'm looking at is the tactical version, which they say is .1" lower than the standard version. I don't know if that difference would be enough that I could use the factory front sight or not though.

In looking at the Skinner website, they give some general estimations of which front sight heights are recommended for certain guns, but those suggestions are based on their standard rear sights.
