Question about Semi Auto at the range

Is it required to have special paperwork for a Semi Auto rifle to take to a firing range? Do the laws vary from State To State and are there magazine restrictions on the amount in the mag at any time?
 
In CA the magazine limit is 10 rounds. Some ranges have magazine loading limits as well, but there's no law about it anywhere else. No paperwork is needed anywhere.
 
now there could be a local ordanance restricting mag caps but for the rifle itself? some towns have some weird laws (need a hunters safety to use public ranges, guns need to safety checked b4 you can hunt with them by a instructor or such. call the local gun shop or the pd and see if there is any restrictions on transport or firearms at the range and such.
 
California isn't the only state with magazine capacity limits. Most "red states" don't have limits on mag size, but off the top of my head, Ohio, New Jersey, and a few others do.
