Question about Savage Scout

Thinking of buying either a Savage Scout or a Remington model 7
in .308 . How do the two compare as far as function and accuracy?
Can the Scout be easily converted to accept a conventional scope
and rear sight? Are ther any other options out there for a 20"
barreled .308 with open sights, scope mount, and maybe a detachable mag. ?

Thanks

I think both of these are fine, but the scout mount requires a long eye relief scope.I found these to be quite a disappointment for me,although I wear glasses and at 49,find my vision to be an issue.Be aware that in 308 the Model 7 kicks like a mule.

I've got a Savage Scout. Cheap way to test the scout concept. I also have several Rem 700s. If you are looking for a good knockabout rifle with conventional scope mounting points.
I suggest you get a Ruger m77. It is an improved Mauser with the scope ring bases milled into the receiver. Generally you can get one cheaper than a Remington. Good quality and value.

btw: This is not an add for Ruger just my .2$.

Cheers,

I have a Savage Scout, it's a great little rifle. I have my scope mounted in the forward position but I think it could be mounted in the "normal" position if you wanted to. Can't compare to Remington or Ruger as I have no experience with either companies bolt action rifles. The Savage is .308 and has a stout recoil. The longest shot on my property is about 200 yards, the accuracy is acceptable at that range.
