Question about "read this first" books

The ABC's of Reloading (I strongly advise starting with this one.)

Got this one. Co-worker snagged it during a 6+ hour long butts in seats software test. I was reading Green Eyes and Black Rifles. Even as a non-gun let alone reloading person they said the enjoyed the writing style.

Metallic Cartridge Reloading (I strongly advise buying this one second.)

By who? Metallic Cartridge Handloading: Pursuit of the Perfect Cartridge by Mic McPherson is by the same author as one book by that name on Amazon but the original name seems out of print. Or is it the one by Edward A. Matuna?

Speer Manual

Which is the most current? Reloading Manual #14? Now going by Nosler or is there a 15+?

Modern Reloading by Richard Lee
Lyman Metallic Reloading Handbook
Hornady 5th Edition Reloading Handbook (2 volume set)

These are clear, Hornady looks like it is up to the 9th edition and doesn't appear to be 2 volumes now.

Speer's latest is indeed Number 14. Manufacturer manuals are kind if limited though. They only have data for their products. As in, Speer only tests Speer bullets and publishes that data under the Speer brand name.
"...By who?..." Doesn't make much difference. Everybody and his brother has, can or will write his own reloading book.
Hornady is at #9. $40 MSRP too. Hornady stuff only.
That Amazon page is wrong. Speer has nothing to do with No$ler.
Speer, RCBS, Federal, Blazer/CCI and Alliant are all owned by the same holding company though.

The holding company is Vista Outdoors, after ATK decided to divest itself of the consumer shooting business. There's been some optimism that this will let the ammunition-related companies get back on track, absent ATK's helpful oversight. I understand ATK is still running Lake City on contract, but that they had to bring Olin back on a consulting basis to get the plant running at full capacity. They just got too far outside their immediate area of expertise, like blowing up space shuttles. (This is the former Morton-Thiokol, now, ATK Launch Systems Group).

Nosler's current manual is their #7. If you follow that link I gave you see a page full of all the brands owned by Vista Outdoors. Speer is one. Nosler is not. Nosler is privately owned by the Nosler family, AFAIK.
