Question about my 336.

I bought this 336 a few weeks ago and I have a question. I need to attached sling mounts and not sure where to do it. If you see in the pic there is a spot at the bottom of the stock that looks right but I had someone told me not to do it there and drill a new hole. The mark is something specific and its not a sling point. Does that sound right? I hads someone else tell me that that IS where your supposed to attach the sling. Weird,

I'm talking about the white circle on the bottom of the stock.

Thanks

That's the Marlin bullseye, a trademark of sorts. Marlin has been putting that thing on rifles since I've known about them.

It is NOT the spot to mount a sling swivel stud, although many folks mount the stud there. Measure up 1.5-2 inches from the toe of the stock and mount the swivel there. You'll be much happier and you'll save that little plastic trademark.

Very cool! Thanks for confirming that. If the guy had been more positive about that I would have agree, but he did not seem too sure of himself.

It is amazing how many used Marlins I see with the sling studs mounted in the bulls eye. Some folks shouldn't be allowed to own guns.

If you're not going to be carrying the gun with a sling much then it almost doesn't matter. If you'll carry it a lot then put the sling attachments on the side so the the rifle lays flat against your back.

That looks like fairly nice wood on that 1970 model, BTW. Nice buy.....
Thanks! I found this not long ago and I think the wood is in great shape and the gun functions smoothly. I picked it up for $269. I 've been looking for an older model for quite some time and was very happy when I found this one. I'm gonna use this for hunting deer/hogs.
