Question about dings "near" the crown of a rifle.

I have an SKS which I just re-crowned everything is flat along the edge of the crown where the bullet exits but about a 1/4 an of inch or so away from where the bullet exits there is a ding will this affect accuracy? I remember hearing once that we are only really concerned with the area that is right next to where the bullet exits. Put differently, immediately next to the bore. Not the surrounding face of the crown. Just curious:cool: Everything surrounding the hole is even and flat the ding is away from that crucial spot but yes very close...

My guess is no problem. Others may chime in shortly if there is any evidence a ding not in the crown, but near it might vent the muzzle gasses differently and somehow de-stabilizing the bullet.

I have seen some high speed and high resolution photos of bullets leaving the muzzle and some photographs will show a blast pattern from which you can count the lands and grooves.

I just don't know enough about the subject to be sure you do or do not have a problem.

How does the gun shoot? Have you noticed any significant change?

Be interesting to view the feedback.

The important thing is the end of the barrel where it meets the rifling .That is chamfered on yours and looks fine !!

If you are referring to the dings that are on the outside of the bore not even inside the barrel I really don't see how that could or would effect the bullet.

If I were you would just shoot it, but how much accurcy are you really expecting out of a SKS anyway..........

That is what I figured the crown is probably already more then good enough for the SKS I smoothed at the edge for cosmetics reasons mainly thanks guys..
