question about de-resonator

i recently bought a barrel de-resonator for a marlin 917vs 17hmr and ive heard a lot of talk about where it supposed to go on the barrel. does anyone have any experience with this particular rifle?

If your talking about the rubber thing from Sims Vibration labratory
I tried it in several spotS on my .270 and never saw a change in group size.
Start one inch in front of barrel and work your way out.

I hate to burst your bubble, but a de-resonator won't affect accuracy. The vibration in a barrel is GOING to happen. Lessening the motion of a barrel right as a shot is fired won't affect accuracy.

The name of the accuracy game is CONSISTENCY. Getting a barrel to react to the shock of a round discharging the EXACT same way as it did for the previous round is what shrinks group size. This is why people bed their actions, and in some cases, their barrels.

Summary:
Buying a barrel de-resonator won't be the "magic" tool to reduce group sizes. (guess how i learned)

I put the Simms damper on my Savage 110 .243 Win. It did reduce my groups from about 2" to 1". Of course, it depends on your rifle and your loads. Basically, it's a $20 crapshoot on whether or not it will work for you. Follow the instructions that come with the product if you decide to take the gamble.
