Question about corroded ammo

I recently obtained a few sealed plastic pks. of what appears to be surplus miltary 7.62 X 51. Each pk. contains 10 small boxes holding 20 rds. ea. One of the pks. had a musty smell to it, so I opened it and used that first. Went thru about 100 rds. with no problem. Then today I read some posting's about certain packs of these "surplus" rounds were packed in boxes that led to corrosion. After looking closely at the remaining rounds, I do see blotches on the casings. Is this something to be concerned about? What real problems should I be looking for? Continue to use them or not? Any help appreciated. The markings on the boxes are as follows: AB 22 , 20 Patronen, 7.62 mm x 51, DM 41, Weichkern, LOS MS-66-8

I've shot a heck of a lot of that german milsurp over the last few years. The only ones I pitched were the rounds with blue fungus-looking corrosion so severe I didn't know if they would chamber and extract properly. Probably 5 rounds out of 2000 or so.

It's magnificent ammo. You can wipe off most of the crud with a coarse piece of cloth and it will run great.

I bought a can of 500 loose-packed rounds that were extra funky for a really nice price, that's where most of the rare fungus creatures were found. The 200rd packs have been better. I need to buy some more while it's still around.

And it's not corrosive in the traditional sense of being corrosively primed. No special cleaning procedures are required.

I changed the title of your thread to corroded, instead of corrosive.

Corrosive, in terms of ammo, has a very specific meaning to gun people. It means ammo that's loaded with primers that have a compound that attracts moisture from the air (cousin of table salt).

On the other hand, corroded ammo, which is what you have, won't result in the risk of your bore rusting when you fire it.

I've fired a lot of corroded ammo over the years, and have never had a problem with any of it. I just knock the worst of the corrosion off with a cloth or with steel wool.

I don't reload corroded cases if I can actually feel a textured surface on the case. That means that there's been case damage, so those go into the garbage.
