I'm considering taking a very long trip on foot that would involve me going through several states. To put it mildly, I'm a little concerned about the potential dangers of being far from any cities without having a way to defend myself. I'd feel infinitely safer if I was able to carry a gun with me. However, I don't know the first thing about the legality of this. I'm in Texas and know there's concealed handgun permits I can obtain here, but I don't know if other states would acknowledge it. Can anyone give me information about the legality of basically stuffing a handgun in my backpack and then hoofing it from state to state? Thanks in advance.

Confirm any information with official government sources, but what's on that page should be up to the minute. It looks good if you are headed east, not as rosy if you are headed west BUT perhaps you can get out of state Concealed Handgun Licenses in the non-reciprocal states you would be passing through.

What states will you be walking through? Texas has reciprocity with many other states. A non-resident Florida permit would also likely be an asset.
FWIW, most states have a "peaceable journey" law in regard to carrying firearms. It would be interesting to see if they are inclusive of those who walk as well as those who drive.

I'm sure you'll think I'm crazy when I way this, but the trip I was thinking of would take me through all 48 contiguous states (I'm not joking). So I'd have to wrangle for permission with some of the states up in the northeast, where it seems they're a nuisance about this sort of thing (especially New York).

In that case, you will be breaking state conceal carry laws in Illinois, where CCW is banned unless you are a policeman.

Here's a couple questions that I never found answers for. I you have a carry permitt and you are at the mall and stop big returante in the mall that serves adult drinks can you carry your firearm with you? What type of handgun can you hunt with and are you allowed to carry your pistol when hunting.
