Question about C&R FFL

Fill out a form, write a check for $30, send it to the BATF, send a copy to your local CLEO, wait a few months. That's it.

I got mine!

REally easy. You just need to call BATF, they send you a packet with all of the directions. Fill out the forms, get some fingerprints, fill out a form with your local law enforcement/sherrif, and possibly send in one more form to the state (I had to get a certificate of eligibilty here in the PRK that cost an extra $70). All in all a really easy process for a nice little bonus.

I just sent my application in about two weeks ago. You can actually download the application from the BATF website. Click on Firearms and you'll see a selection of items, including the C&R application. You'll also see a pretty comprehensive list of firearms that qualify as C&Rs.

You don't have to have fingerprints at all. Just complete the app, have your local CLEO (Chief Law Enforcment Officer) sign one copy, and drop it in the mail with $30.

Interestingly enough, for any of you out there who have applied for the C&R, do you recall the one oddity on this application? It's that there is no place for YOU to sign! I can't really understand it but there it is. I've asked others about it and they, too, found it pretty odd.

You don't have to have your CLEO sign the form. You just need to put his name and address on it and send him a copy. You don't need his permission, but you are required to notify him by sending him the copy.

Rome,

Your application will probably be rejected.
Your signature and date of application is required in the space at the top of the back of the application. The download is two pages long, front and back.

Houndawg,

Ouch! I just re-read the app and understood that line #11 was to be signed by the CLEO. I reread all the fine print, however, lower in the document and do see where line #11 is actually mentioned. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer until I can turn this around.
