Question about an Italian Military Rifle

Wondering about this rifle and its possible value.

Brescia 1880 and MN 6219 are stamped on the rifle.

It seems to have a crown stamped on the barrel near the chamber.

There is a number on the stock: V1005.

Gun also has a ladder-type flip up sight.


What type of rifle is this? Any ideas what it's worth?

Generally they're known as Veterli rifles.

I believe they were originally developed in Switzerland as single-shot rifles for a .41-caliber rimfire.

Later they were redeveloped as magazine-fed rifles, which is when the Italians adoped it. I believe the Italian version was center fire from the get go.

Value?

It's a 10.4mm Model 1870/87 Vetterli-Vitali turning bolt rifle. It was adopted by the Italians around 1870 as a single shot and later converted to a 4 shot mag. Lots of 'em were converted to 6.5 Carcano during W. W. I.
There's one site that has one listed at $550, but it's an antique firearm site. They tend to have higher prices. I think your's is in a bit better condition without actually seeing it.
