I have a 16" A2 rock river upper dpms lower. Its a fixed carry handle and I want to go with an eotech 512 or 517 red dot holographic. From what I can find I need a cantilever type mount to bolt to my carry handle and then the pictinny rail would extend forward over my forearm grip and the red dot mounts on that. Is this correct? Also can I still see my fixed iron sights through the red dot mounted this way?

That is correct. I'm not sure about your irons...depends on how low the cantilever sits....

You could always have a gunsmith change out your upper for a flat top, also...

I briefly mounted an ARMS 39 gooseneck on my Bushy. It's a nice mount with 2 securing points and a brush guard at the tip. Never mounted a sight on it.

What I can say is that, depending on your cheekweld, the rail groove limits some of your peripheral sight, but not enough to hinder your sight picture.

I ended up swapping the upper for a flat top because I fell into the hype that the gooseneck would never be accurate. I can say I don't know because I never gave it a shot.

I would say if you're good with irons don't even bother. Keep the A2. If you want a dot, get a good cantilever. I paid good money for it, then picked up an upper from Henderson for 1/2 the price... but then had to pay again for the flip up rear (YHM). In the end, the same cost.

FWIW- my next will be all A2
