question about a Browing HP Copy

I've seen alot of the High Power copys called FEG.
Iam just quriuos are these pistols any good in terms
of reliability ? I only ask because they seem to go for
around $260.00 compared to $500 for the Browing.
Iam stuck on deciding to buy a Sig p226 or a High power.
So if these guns are Relibale i think it would be an ideal gun .
Has anyone owned one ? thanks

I have one and like it. It points naturally and just "feels" right.

Functionally the only problems I have had with it occured after about 75 rnds of Wolfe 9mm - the feed ramp got all crudded up. Pulled the thing apart wiped the feed ramp clear w/ finger tip, reassembled and was ready to go again, before my dad finshed reloading his Glock.

Someday I will own a real BHP (and a Porsche 911 - currently a 912) , but until them the FEG works for me.

I think the only problem you might have is if you feed it a constant diet of +P/sub gun ammo. Some of the clones have weaker frames.

But the nice thing about the FEG it is made in Hungry so it is designed for the 9mm para cartridge unlike our american made versions of the 9mm.

The FEG will accept Browning HP mags as well. I have owned many makes of 9mm, .40 cal and 45 acp handguns and find the FEG HP to be one of the best ever.

When thinking about the caliber, I wanted a NATO cartridge weapon.....

I've got a couple thousand rounds through mine so far... and nothing to complain about. I hate to say it, but finish and wood don't even look half bad. Put it 4 feet away and hide the slide catch and no one will know it's not a BHP!

I have a chromed one and a blue and a Browning Hi- Power- all are great. Have had no failures to feed or jams with any of them . Have fired Ball ammo, Winchester Silver Tips and Federal Hydroshoks. They are my favorite Semi-auto pistols.

I have seen several of those FEG's both the BHP copy and the double action. All seem very well made and hold up well. The only thing I would do is smooth them down a bit inside just to remove burrs. Otherwise, until I find out different, I would say they are as good as the BHP, though without the famous name.

Does the FEG have any problems with hammer bite? If it does, can one replace it with a different hammer?

Although mine hasn't bitten me, I have heard from several people that is a problem. Yes, a different hammer will fix it...

Mine bites me a little bit, but at 6'6" 295 lbs I've got pretty meaty hands. Besides, it's more of a love nibble :D

I have the FEG FP-9 (highpower with a vented rib) and it is a superb gun and probably my best shooting 9mm.I have never experienced hammer bite like i have with my Sistema 1911.

The high power hammer stops too soon for hammer bite unless one has unusually large hands and lets the thumb web ride very high. The Colt long hammer (as on the Sistema) is notorious for hammer bite and I would change it out on any gun I was planning to shoot.

I have the FEG Hi-Power clone, and can't say enough good about mine. As far as hammer bite goes, mine drew blood a couple of times (fleshy hands, I guess). I sent mine to Kurt Wickmann (www.kwgw.com). He put a set of Novak Lo Mount Carry sights on (front and rear--milled the dovetails into the slide) and bobbed the back of the hammer to eliminate the bite. He does a mod that completely removes the "spur" from the hammer, and finishes it flush with the slide. That's what I had done, and it looks and functions GREAT. One the the best bargains in the handgun scene today.
