Query re Bianchi holster for Diamondback

I posted a question to the Bianchi folks re a holster they offer and CeCe Medina said in effect "sorry" but they don't know... My question is: does anybody know if Bianchi's 5BHL holster model in Size 10 will fit a 6 inch barrel Cold Diamondback 38 Special? I know it will fit several other medium frame revolvers but is this the best size for the Diamonback?

Probably not.
The Diamondback is a small-frame revolver, same size as the Detective Special.

The size 10 is for medium-frame revolvers like the Python, King Cobra, and 686, so the holster would be too large and the smaller Diamondback would be too loose a fit.

Looking at the Bianchi chart, I notice some odd information.
As example, the size 10 is also listed as fitting the S&W Model 19 AND the Model 686.

The 686 has a much larger diameter cylinder than the 19, and I don't understand how a smaller cylinder model 19 can be a good fit in a holster that also fits a much larger 686.

Unfortunately, I don't see ANY 5BHL for a 6" barrel that's going to fit your Diamondback, UNLESS they offer a version that's a genuine fit for a "K" frame's cylinder.

The Model 15, 19, and 66 "K" frame has a cylinder almost exactly the same size as the Diamondback, but the frames are slightly larger.

If they actually size a model 10 to really fit a "K" frame cylinder, you MAY be able to get by, but again, the Diamondback really isn't going to fit that well.

Further to Diamondback query...

I had the same concerns and was hoping somebody other than myself had tried to pop a 6 inch Diamondack into a thumbsnap holster like the Bianchi 5BHL Size 10... Logic would suggest then that a smaller Size 9 might do but the only "match' mentioned is a 5.5 inch S&W N frame. What do do short of driving to the plant in California and trying it out personally? And just how "loose" is loose in a size 10?

Andy,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's difficult to find a holster for a Colt Diamondback. I had a 2.5" model that was nearly impossible to find a holster for until I lucked into a nice one at a gun shop's clearance bin.

Part of the problem is that the Diamondback has been out of production long enough that most holster makers no longer list it in their catalogs. Secondly, many people seem to keep their older Colts at home instead of carrying them so there's not a lot of call for holsters for them.

You might try taking your Colt in a carrying case to a gun shop that carries a good selection of revolver holsters - chances are you can find one that will fit if you have patience.

Here's a place to start searching among holster makers for a holster. You may have to have one custom made. http://www.huntingsociety.org/holsters.html

By the way, Your 6" Diamondback is worth $575 to $650 in 95% to 98% condition. If your gun is fairly "minty" looking, holster wear can diminish it's value.

Good luck on your search.

Andy,

I'm a lefty, I'm used to looking a bit harder than many for leather.

Here's one option for a thumbsnap holster for a 6" Diamondback. El Paso Saddlery was more than willing to make up a fine Brill type holster, I believe these folks call this model the 1930 Austin. I'm sure that they'd be willing to make a right hand version of this style, or just about anything else listed on their site. They're also open to making just about any type of holster, just as you want it.

Construction, fit and finish are top quality, and the price is not unreasonable.
