Quandry: Sig P228 or HK USP9

I just took my P228 out for it's inaugural range run. Oh, BABY what a hummer! Slightly more accurate than my USP9, and felt better to boot! Only possible problem is that the trigger on the 228 is...shall we say, a tad light. Premature discharge, (no smart remarks, plaese), which fortunatly occured when the weapon was pointed mostly downrange.(And have since attoned for my sins). The weapon was in SA mode at the time. (SA = hammer cocked, or at least that's my understanding)

This brings up my concern: if something goes bump in the night, would you prefer the USP, with a more conservative system of safeties in case the threat is misread, or the 228, intentionally left in DA mode, (hammer down).

I would take the Sig P228 anyday, over the H&K USP; abeit both are excellent weapons.
Just my personal preference!!! :D :D :)

echo,

Though I didn't have the same pistols you do, I did have a Sig P220 .45 and a HK USP 45.

If I had to choose, it would depend on what for. If I was in a survival situation out in the sticks, I'd go with the USP. If I wanted a carry gun that was super accurate, I'd go with the Sig. (That's my experience with the two I had).

Now, as far as the "premature discharge" goes. Don't stroke it (trigger) until you're ready!! ;)

228!

I have fired the USP9, USP40, and USP45s...

THE USP45s are the best of their breed. If you want HK 9MM go with P7 IMHO...

That being said, I think the P228 is one of the best combat style 9MMs, bar none.

I'd take the P228 hands down. Nothing against the USP, they're great too, but I'm just more accurate with the P228. In an Alessi Talon Plus the P228 is ideal for licensed concealed carry.

Not true. The 9mm and .40 models do have pre-bans. The .45, OTOH, only has post-ban (some unmarked and sold as pre-ban, according to HK). The 9mm holds 15 and the .40 holds 13.

FULL cap mags are available for both, both new will cost $90.00. Both weapons are excellent; this is a case where it truly is a matter of ergonomics and preferred safety systems. I had both a USP 45 and SIG 220; love the USP, sold the 220. In 9mm, I love my 226, but sold my USP9, but my 229 (identical frame to 228) is the most ergonomic handgun I've evr held. And yet, my G19 or P7M8 are most often at my side.

Only you can decide-the only truly objective difference is that the HK will be more corrosion resistant in the long run. It is also rated for +p+ ammo(NATO), the SIG is not, though some shoot it anyway.

pojim, the 9mm NATO round (casehead marked with the cross in circle) is not a +p+ round. Also, the P228 has a NSN and is issued as the M11. The P228 is fully capable of firing the 9mm NATO round with no ill effects.
