QPQ finish on P99 - Questions

Now that I have decided on the standard P99 and not the P99QA, I am trying to decide on black slide or the QPQ finished slide.

My questions for people with the QPQ finish are:

1. Is the QPQ finish very shiny where there would be problems with glare in bright sunlight?

2. Does the QPQ-finished slide have a different shape to it than the black slide? The pictures I have seen of the QPQ slide don't show the edge at the front of the slide, about an inch or so back from the muzzle. The QPQ slide seems to be smooth all the way from front to rear. Am I correct on that.

Are there any othere things I should be aware of?

Thanks much,
SJP

Cobra,

I have one of these and I really like it. Let me see if I can answer your questions.

1) The finish isn't that shiny. It's not like chrome or nickel. Also Walther puts "ribs" along the top of the slide to reduce the glare.

2) What you probably saw was a .40 caliber P99 QPQ. The 9mm has the cutout on the front of the slide. The .40 is smooth to add more mass.

Also, QPQ stands for Quench Polish Quench. Meaning Walther Quenches the slide in Tenifer, polishes it and then Quenches it again. Supposedly making it more durable and rust resistant.

P99

I love my P99 QPQ, its a sharp looking piece and has yet to show even a minute amount of wear..........its also easier to clean since the fouling shows very easily against the grey slide.

personally i would get another black one, but that's just me...mebbe i'll get a military green one some time.
