i seem to remember colt offering the red insert front on factory guns...it might have been stainless ones, i've never seen the insert on a blue one.

popeye - the picture is very nice, i'm tempted by every snake i see too

is it nickeled or the "ultimate" (polished stainless) ?

all mine are blue. i really liked the look of the ultimate stainless but i knew the handling scratches would drive me up the wall.

the only thing that irratates me about snakes are the factory grips...every other stainless gun i've seen came with rubber. i like the hogue monogrip but my hearts desire are a set from fishpaw

Congrat's popeye, very nice looking snake! I know you are
real proud of it; heck, I would be too.:D Now, carry it to
the range, for its first B-I-T-E!

Looking at this gun I see no scratches (yet) But I agree about brite stainless being a PITA. I've got 2 "ultimate stainless" 1911's. Even with carefull handling there are minor scratches on the .38 super. Makes me nuts. Nothing I've tried fixes the scratch.

popeye - i'm not suggesting that you try this WARNING, WARNING

i understand that if you get a nice felt buffing wheel and some polishing rouge (sp?) and...polish it out without affecting the angles or planes

Popeye, those Pythons are cr#p! They are the worst designed guns and are totally unsafe. Talk about kabooms!!! Why, I think I once heard someone say that they heard someone who knew somebody that was related to someone who knew somebody that heard someone say that he knew someone that had a Python blow up when he opened the shipping box. Now really, you must agree that you should not have such a dangerous gun in your possession. So, if you will just carefully wrap that gun in bubble wrap, place it in a really heavy duty box and send it to me, I will see that it is properly used...I mean disposed.:D

rballi - very nice, i almost mistook it for a diamondback until i saw the hammer. is it the lighting or is that a satin sheen to that big snake?

rballi: Very nice gun. I've never seen a short Python for sale around here.

9mmepiphany: I'm afraid to try an polish out scratches. I tried Flitx under the grip panels and it dulled the shine.

i've heard they us the same polishing procedure as used to attain the "royal blue" on the carbon guns. the final polish is with a leather polishing wheel and a compound with the consistency of flour

that is why i prefer the satin/brushed finish to the ultimate...just hit it with a scotchbrite pad :p

but i do love the look of that ultimate

I just picked up a 6" stainless Python. Has lots of scratches, but the gun is mechanically tight and is verry accurate. Last owner took care of the mechanical parts but not the finish.

Who cares about a few scratches, as long as the gun shoots and works. Gives the gun character.

If I polish them out, I will invariably make some new ones:rolleyes:
