Python s/n V25xxx: Mfg quality?

I'm looking at what seems to be a quality second hand revolver.
But with such a serial number produced during or after 1978 are we still in the high quality era of Pythons or have we slipped into the so-so ?

One detail (possibly unrelated to the quality issue raised above): I noticed 3 or 4 minor rust spots on the barrel, around the "hole". Minor but the gunsmith said that removing them would cause the blueing to go too.

Hi 357SIG,

Just a few thoughts from someone who owns a 2004 vintage S/S 6" 357 Magnum Python. The first thing to remember is that the weapon is almost 30 years old. Don't expect it to be in perfect running condition. In the old dayz we stoked 'em up with the hottest rounds we could build just to be a bad boy. That said, the previous owners could have done the same thing. Doing hot rounds all the time will certainly have diminished the frame strength somewhat. If the owner will let you send it to Colt for analysis then do it. We all work hard for our money and I see no sense throwing it away on a suspect 30 year old handgun. Colt will get rid of the rust, analyze any existing problems, re-blue it and certainly tune it up right. You didn't mention the price but us boyz who must have all the nice goodies get clouded vision when it comes to the famous Python. Think seriously about what really has to be done to that gun to bring it to near perfect shooting condition. I reload for my own and enjoy shooting it often, it's truly a pleasure to have it and make many others jealous. Buy it if you must but at least have it checked by a competent gunsmith. Good luck Harry

I just bought a used V37XXX that is in very good condition and would say its quality is up to par with any other python. If the python you are considering is in decent shape, dont worry about anyones elses opinion ,its your dime.
