Has anyone put new, i.e. better, sights on thier sistema 1911? If so, what sights did you use and how was it done? I am thinking that the front sight would have to be ground off and the a dovetail cut for the sight. It sound expensive. Anyone?

There are a number of sights for the Sistema (which is simply a Colt Government Model (M1911A1 style). The front sight will not have to be ground off; it is just staked from underneath and is removed by driving it out from underneath. The new sight has a post that (with a little fitting) goes into the hole and is re-staked.

The rear sight drives off and can be replaced with a higher fixed sight or an adjustable sight.

Take a look at www.brownells.com for some of the sights available for the M1911A1 type.

Unless you have some experience, I suggest having a gunsmith do the job.

Any rear sites made for the stock dovetail will fit with little to minor fitting. As far as the front sight goes, Jim is right. You can also sent it to the smith for a dovetail cut and add on a dovetail front sight.I took the easy way out and bought a new slide with front and rear dovetail cuts and lowered/flared ejection port.
