Purchasing new vs. used...paranoid or prudent?

I have gotten to the point that I will only purchase certain un-PC firearms (mainly pistols and semi-auto rifles) used, read non-paperwork. I thought I was just being overly paranoid until I overheard a conversation at the gun show this weekend. FFL dealer told gentleman next to me that the market is such that most dealers are selling new firearms cheaper than used because there is a growing segment of the law abiding shooting community that will gladly pay as much as $100-150 more to avoid paperwork. I proceded to investigate this claim at the 800+ table show and found that this is indeed true in many cases.

What do you all think of this? I know there will be those that say "If you have ever purchased a paperwork firearm, you're already on the list. If you have a carry permit, you're already on the list. If you purchase hunting licenses, you're already on the list."

What do you all think? Paranoid or prudent?

1. If I buy a new weapon, I can normally take it back if I have problems with it. If it is used, Good Luck!

2. If I had a choice of paperwork or no paperwork, I would obviously choose no paperwork (who wouldn't?).

3. You talk about being on "the list". In my mind, it is more like "How many lists do I want to be on?" My name is on the following lists: gun club, CCW, NRA, GOA, FBI, this board, VISA, Master Card, etc, etc.
Now, when someone has the money to cross-reference all these lists (databases), my life will be an open book - that's what's scary!

4. I bet your name is already on some gun related lists - but you don't have to make it easy for them to find you!

I don't get this list thing, It would seem to me the bigger the list the better. Besides are you going to hide out with your guns and do nothing. The way I see it someone will roll over and give in, or they will fight. Everyone knows the plan and all it will take is one good dear rifle.

Premium for guns with no paper has been around since 34. Became more common with the 68 law.
