I kinda starting my handgun collection. I bought my first handgun, a Springfield XDM 45ACP and now I'm looking into buying another at a different caliber handgun from a different manufacturer. I like the look and feel of the Beretta PX4 Storm, but not sure which caliber to buy. At first I figure I just go with a 40 Cal and then when I'm ready to buy a 3rd handgun...do more research on a good 9mm. I know the next handgun I want to buy is the PX4 Storm but not sure anymore whether I should get a 9mm or 40?

I've shot the PX4 Storm 40 and loved it, but not the 9mm (the range didn't have one to rent). I just want to have different caliber handguns from varies manufacturers.

Also, if I go with a 40 do you have any recommendations in terms of 9mm that I should try?

Are you going to carry it or use it for home defense, or just collect & shoot? The former...40, the later....9mm.

Both are good calibers, but 9mm is cheaper to shoot.

My personal recommendations for 9mm:
Walther P99 or PPS
Beretta 92FS (finest handgun I've shot)
S&W M&P

Good luck....so many guns, so little money. :D

If you like the 40, then go with it a 9 will be cheaper to shoot and have a little less recoil but is other wise no better or worse than a 40. In 9mm there are few bad chooses it really depends on what you plan on using it for, HD, range, ect. :D

9mm..cheaper to shoot, proven round, everyone makes it, minimal recoil, holds more rounds, fast follow up shots, +p's & +p+'s, or not...I can go on.

9mm

I'm on my phone so I can't really search, but a gun show on TV last year did a timed test with the PX4 in 45, 40, and 9. It's on youtube somewhere but they did a really fair comparison of the gun in all its' configurations.

I'll vote for .40

The fact that I own a PX4 .40 kinda betrays my bias, but the platform handles the .40 better than any other gun I've shot. The recoil just feels like a 9mm. The slight jumpiness of the .40 really isn't an issue in the PX4. Of course, that probably means the 9mm recoil is even more muted.

For cost-effectiveness, 9mm is a good choice, and you get 17+1. :)

Mine has been a darn good gun that I'm proud to own. I've considered getting an INOX 9mm version to be its brother.
