Since the Virginia Tech shootings earlier, the U.S. gun control issue once again become a hot topic. Since firearms can be legally sold in the U.S, I wanted to find out how to buy a gun.

A "successful" experience of buying guns . . . .

Summary: This is an article by a foreign student in which he details his contact with US law enforcement officers following an attempt to buy a firearm.

Militarygamer,

While I am not a mod, I couldn't help but notice that your post is in clear violation of the TFL Copyright policy:

TFL Copyright Policy said:
In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited.

2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

You might want to edit your post before a mod comes by and, at best, closes your thread and, at worst, you recieve an infraction for the action.

It would seem the author has a bit of a problem with the English language.

Probably a non-Asian-American man showing great interest in firearms, drew suspicion from the hunting supplies clerk...

I am here as a visiting scholar and a Chinese reporter. After the Virginia Tech shootings, the U.S. gun control issue became a hot debate in China, so the newspaper asked me experience how to buy a in order to understand the true course of American firearms trade ... Chen Qiang

Why did he leave us hanging off the cliff??? Did he get the gun or not; and if so, what did he do with it?

From what I can gather using the "translate with Bing" feature a Chinese journalism student going to school in the USA wanted to see how easy it was to buy a gun after the Virginia Tech shooting. Goes to several gun stores (including Walmart) and is informed as a non-resident foreigner he cannot buy a handgun but can buy a rifle. One of the clerks got suspicious of him and called the FBI, who contacted him at school and interviewed him for a few minutes. He told them he was a journalism student writing a story on buying guns in the USA and didn't actually want to buy a gun, but was just trying to understand the process. The FBI is satisfied with this explanation and they shake hands and leave after offering to help understand US gun laws.

We really don't have enough of a description from the OP as to the actual content of the article. Furthermore, it shouldn't be necessary for members to track down a possibly faulty translation.

If you find a copy of the article in English, we can reopen this.
