Purchase of a new rifle in Northern NY help

ok, I live in northern NY, and want to purchase my first rifle. Does anyone know "all" forms of ID accepted in NY? Only reason i ask is because my wallet was lost, and if your from NY, you know how speedy they are to send you the new one. I will wait the 6 weeks if i have to, but if i dont.............

They don't replace lost wallets very fast in Texas either..

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Any goverment issue ID with picture and birthdate should suffice as long as it hasn't expired.

lol i was waiting for "the wallet" response hehe

Thanks bud, i appreciate it.

I might be out of luck then. all i have is my old NY id, birth cert, social sec card, picture work badge, and health insurance cards.

They couldnt use my blue cross/blue shield cards could they? they have my photo and DOB on them. Prob not.

looks like im waiting 6 weeks. uggghhhh. You know how us men are, we always want the best, and we always want it now hehe.

Hypotheticly speaking, what if my wife decided she wanted to give me an early b-day present, and i came home to find my new rifle sitting on the table waiting for me? Is it dificult then to transfer ownership?

im pretty embarrased. Im giving away the fact that, patience, is not one of my strong points lol

If your wife used "your" money to buy the gun and then gave it to you or if she used her own money with the intent that you would pay her back, that would be a "straw purchase" and illegal, even though both of you can (I presume) legally own the gun.

If she used "her" money to buy the gun and gave it to you as a gift, a true gift with no payback, it would be perfectly legal.

There is no registration of long gun in New York state. If your wife buys a gun and brings it home and it lives in your house, it doesn't matter who "owns" it or uses it.

The "straw purchase" thing is the stupidest concept between a husband and wife. In my marriage, there is no "my" and "her" money. We are one, a single unit. It is "our" money. Therefore, I could not "pay her back" because I'd be paying back "our" money to "us" with "our" money.

As to the ID requirement.... this is straight from the form 4473 that you will fill out purchase the firearm:

KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER: Before a licensee may sell or deliver a firearm to a
nonlicensee, the licensee must establish the identity, place of residence, and
age of the buyer. The buyer must provide a valid government-issued photo identification
to the seller that contains the buyer’s name, residence address, and
date of birth. The licensee must record the type, identification number, and
expiration date (if any) of the identification in question 18a. A driver’s license or
an identification card issued by a State in place of a license is acceptable.
Social security cards are not acceptable because no address, date of birth, or
photograph is shown on the cards. If the buyer is a member of the Armed Forces
on active duty acquiring a firearm in the State where his or her permanent duty
station is located, but he or she has a driver’s license from another State, you
should list the buyer’s military identification card and official orders showing where
his or her permanent duty station is located in response to question 18a.

My advice is to move to another state with better gun laws.

Why? Are there states that violate federal law in their guns sales? Cuz the ID thing is a requirement on the 4473, not a state law.

This comment was not related to the ID issue, it was just a general statement.
