Over the years I have purchased many rifles and handguns and have not even been delayed by the NCIS or what ever it is called search. Recently, I tried to redeem a firearm purchase and was not only delayed, but DENIED!!! I forgot to put my SS number on the paperwork. They are evidently confusing me with a known felon that shares my name and date of birth in the Detroit area.
I sent a letter to the FBI office in charge. They sent me back info stating that I need to get fingerprints and any other documentation that should help clear me. I sent the fingerprint chart, copy of DL, voters registration, and CCW permit in hopes of this expediting the process. The recorded message on their phone says that average wait time is currently 178 days.
Now local gun store has my gun, and I can't get it. He suggests that I get my money back and wait until it is all cleared up, but he recognizes that the firearm is not that common and will certainly be sold to another right away.
Have any of you ever had a similar experience?
