Purchase barrel and action only?

Does anyone know if I can purchase a Rem 700 LTR barrel and action with out the stock? I would rather have a McMillan A4 stock instead. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Joe

You will pay the price as all Rifles come with a stock. I am buying a SA M1A and before it is said and done I shall have a Fiberglass stock as well. The furniture is the least expensive for them to produce.
Unless you shop the pawn shops and find one in a hammered stock. That may be worth a few weeks, I check a few here and there.

Buy the complete rifle instead. . .

Getting a PSS barreled action from Remington is like pulling teeth. You might want to consider getting a Remington action barreled with a Cooper 5R barrel instead. That way you get a quality barrel right off the bat. Remington barrels are notorious for excessive headspace and crooked chambers and chipped crowns. I know of a smith in Kansas City who will sell a remington 700 short action with the Accuracy International 5R barrel for about $700.

just my $0.02

Thanks for the input guys.

Hey HK_CQB, can you post or e-mail the gunsmith info to me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

There a few outfits that sell barreled actions as I have seen adds in the SGN for them. Brownells had barreled actions last time I looked at there site but can not remember all the brands and models they had.

Remingtons

hk-cgb, lighten up on the Remingtons. Some of us here on the "right coast" have had nothing but good service out of them. It is the weapon on choice in my family. They still sell well, crooked chambers and all. I was just trying to count how many Remingtons my extended family owns. From 541T 22.cal to 300 mags. I did break tradition and bought a Ruger # 1 in a 6mm rem. No I would not go so far to say they are "notorious" for being poorly made rifles. I am sure like every thing else, there are a few bad ones that get through. It is like Chevys and Fords. People around here say on a quite night you can listen to the Chevys rust. Have a good day..Mike ;)

I have nothing against Remington actions. But my criticism of their barrels is not unfounded. For hunting and plinking purposes they make great firearms. ( I own 8 different Remington rifles in various calibers) But for tactical / LEO use, their PSS barrels do need a little better quality control.

Keep 'em in the X ring
