Moby's anti-Bush tricks

http://nydailynews.com/front/story/162659p-142554c.html

One of Sen. John Kerry's celebrity supporters is ready to pull out all the stops to get him elected. Republicans are shrieking over a suggestion by rocker Moby that Democrats spread gossip about President Bush on the Internet.
"No one's talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day," Moby tells us. "It's a lot easier than you think and it doesn't cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes."

Moby suggests that it's possible to seed doubt among Bush's far-right supporters on the Web.

"You target his natural constituencies," says the Grammy-nominated techno-wizard. "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.

"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"

Moby didn't claim that he believed the abortion story.

Last month, Bush did propose reforms to immigration policy. But he insisted, "I oppose amnesty, placing undocumented workers on the automatic path to citizenship [because it] perpetuates illegal immigration."

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson likened Moby's proposal to "dirty campaign tactics we're already seeing from John Kerry."

"His campaign was willing to use these kinds of voter suppression tactics against members of his own party in Iowa and New Hampshire," Iverson says. "John Kerry is a hypocrite. He pledged to run a clean campaign. Then he uses the lowest form of gutter politics to impugn his opponents, Democratic and Republican. It's unfortunate but this is probably just the beginning of the kind of tactics we're going to be seeing from John Kerry in the months to come."

Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said, "I doubt that Moby was suggesting anybody suppress the vote. We did not use any dirty tactics against any candidate.

"When it comes to dirty tricks the Republic party wrote the book. We've already seen Republican attacks and we haven't even won the nomination yet. The Republican Party is clearly afraid of John Kerry."

This article is over a month old, but I don't see what it would hurt to post it here. I've seen some of this behavior firsthand. Whether you support Bush or not, you should still be aware of all the fifth columnists out there. They are plentiful this year. Buyer beware...

See, this is political and potentially, tangentially, a civil liberties-related subject, but firearms content? No way.

I'm gonna let it go for now. Maybe the L&P mods will let it go too. Maybe not.

Thanks. This is firearms related in the sense that seeds of dissension could be sown by Moby-type activists on firearms related forums all across the Internet, including this one. It would have been more clear if Moby had used an example of activists portraying themselves as gun owners. And like you say, this certainly is about politics....

nralife,

Frankly, you are making way too many assumptions. I actually understand, "...seeds of dissension could be sown by Moby-type activists on firearms related forums all across the Internet, including this one." That may not be enough to keep the thread open because the fact remains that this thread has nothing to do with the responsible ownership of firearms. Now, please slow down for a minute and listen to this next.

Elections are coming. This board will be inundated with political and civil liberties-related posts for the next six months. So what we could do is take each post on its own merit and decide whether it "contributes". What a concept, eh? Or we could look for mention of a rifle or handgun somewhere in the post and sit back and say, "Well okay, it's a firearms-related thread." Now that would be just plain lazy and by the way, the road to ruin. This board is here for the members, not the moderators and admins. Marko has stated clearly that we WILL NOT play favorites on this board. However, Marko has continued a tradition of Rich's that frankly amazed me the first time around and still and even more now. We mods have the authority to police where we have the reponsibility. That authority, in turn, creates more voluntary feelings of responsibility than most here can appreciate. This is not the slash and burn crew. This is TFL.

There is not a politically-related or civil rights-related subject or news article that cannot be spun to be appropriate under your explanation. That is simply not good enough. This is a firearms board, not the Republican OR the Democratic Underground Board.

Keep it on topic. Thanks for being civil in your reply. This thread is closed.

By the way, if Marko thinks this thread should remain open, I hope he will permit me to reopen it, for I surely will.

Okay, after some discussion in the staff lounge, this thread is unlocked and open for posting. We try to be fair. About the criteria for firearm content ... this forum does not have that requirement stated in the forum description. But it would be nice to see. ;)

I would have thought that since Moby is planning to use these lies to help elect a Presidential candidate that is 1,000,000,000% against the RKBA, that would make it firearms related.

I guess the dots are too hard to connect.

That's right, and Kerry tries to placate hunters by slipping into an orange vest and blasting ducks from the sky. He even has the balls to say "I believe inthe 2nd amendment, I hunt". Yeah that's it, hunting is necessary to the security of a free state. Sure. He is the most anti gun candidate for president ever. No way I'm voting for that yahoo.

No, he won't take your "hunting rifle" away.

He'll take your "sniper rifle" away.

Anything done to get Kerry elected is very much firearms related, since he has a literally 100% anti-RKBA voting record. Kerry is, objectively speaking, 100% opposed to everything one might hope this forum stands for. One could easily be anti-Bush and pro-RKBA (e.g. Libertarian), but pro-Kerry and pro-RKBA are polar opposite positions. That's based on his VOTING RECORD, not my opinion.

The left never ceases to amaze me. Now they're even publicly stating that they intend to use outright lies to accomplish their objectives. That's funny... they love to shout from the rooftops about how they were lied to by the Bush administration regarding WMD's. What's the diff you commies? To you, lies are just as good as truths. Crap... you should be bowing before Bush as a great leader if you think he is a liar and lying is your MO. But of course, your real lying leader was Klinton, and now Kerry. Bush is just an ameoba at lying in comparison to those two. How 'bout the theme song to Kerry's campaign be "Lies" by the Thompson Twins? That would be good. Go ahead and pull-out all of your weapons in this campaign. Just be glad that us gun-lovers are not the heartless, gun nut, murderers you make us out to be. Cause our weapons are much more effective than your lies... (There... that last sentence makes this thread gun-related.)
