Which pump has the shortest throw-from stock to forearm length wise?I'm looking for one for my wife at home. The mossberg stock seemed a little longer than the 870.What about the youth models-are there any decent one available for home defense?

I'd like to be able to hold one before I bought it,just started the shotgun search and looked at the 870 and 500 today.I don't know of any shops around here that have em,but it does seem like a good deal..

You could try the reduced LOP nova.
There is no gap between the forend and front of the reciever when the bolt is closed.
Even a thalidomide could fire one of these!

I have a 12" LOP stock set from Hogue.(overmolded) It's freak'n awesome... big difference in size.

I really like the norc. The only "problem" is that the park on it is quite thin. I am going to have it bead blasted and blued, to give it a matte finish. It is a very fun little gun, and an awesome grouse gun. :D

That hogue overmolded 12" length of pull stock is available for mossy, REM and win shotguns. (I have the 870 model on my norc, which is a 14" barreled 870 clone) http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merchant.ihtml?id=3&step=2

You can also get a REM "youth" stock set which is 12" LOP. The stock foreend of the 870 reaches further back (as you can see on the 870 MM above, as compared to the hogue) which would give a person of "smaller stature" more control.

I found a used mossberg for 170.00 that looks like new. It's a 500a w/20 inch barrel and synthetic stock, does that sound reasonable? If i get it,I'll definitely order the hogue. Thanks for all the info..

Win Model 12, 16 Ga.

I have my great aunt's Model 12, made in about 1916. She was only about 5 feet tall, maybe 4'11". Shot it very well. It's a handy, light gun, with a small grip, if you can find one. You might also look at the recently re-introduced Remington 870 in 16 gauge, also scaled down. Nobody your wife shoots with a 16 will ever know it wasn't a 12.
