Puma problems!!

I just purchased a Puma 1892 357 lever action I am having a critical problem with the shells jamming going up the two groves that the shell rim rides up in, they hang up at the last 16th of an inch and I have to force the lever closed! I have polished the groves with no help, the only thing else I can think of is the part of the bolt that pushes the shell into the chamber needs to be polished? I hate to do more as the gun is less than a week old! The next thing will be to return it, which I would rather not do as it, took a long while to get one! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Puma

Sir;
Years ago my late son ordered a Winchester 73 deluxe pistol grip rifle from Uberti.
He experienced feeding troubles with one brand of ammo which had a sharp edge on the crimped bullet. But, the problem was a sharp edge on the chamber mouth of the rifle. We relieved that edge and it fed like a Winchester should.
I don't know but your cartridge might be jaming against a similar sharp edge on your chamber. Check and see. We've had several Pumas and there have been several small issues like this with some.

Sounds like a chamber issue. Did you clean the chamber well after receiving it? What marks are on the unfired cartridge after being chambered and extracted?

Thanks for your responses! I also think it may be a chamber problem. I blackened a cartage and found a great many scrape marks on the bottom of the cartage; I also found a rim at the throat of the loading ramp and polished it out, it did make a small help with the scraping, now I can close the bolt with less force. I have used both reloaded and factory 357 and 38 special, the 38 special seems to have less drag. I did take the entire gun apart and used a bore scope, the chamber is a little rough but I'm not sure polishing the chamber would help. I did work for a custom gun smith for a year so I have a little experience, so my long winded question is should I change the ramp angle and hope this works or just leave it as is? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Sir;
It sounds like you have a rough "entry" in your chamber - chamfer it very slightly - and yes, it won't hurt anything to polish your chamber SLIGHTLY!
357 is about .100 longer so it would bind more than 38 special.
As I fit a barrel to any action (rifle) I always make an infenitesimal break in chamber entry and polish. I think a little polishing and take off that sharp edge in the chamber will help.
You might also very slightly polish your extractor of any burrs it has (do not change angles)!

Check the mouth of the chamber to see if it is sharp or chamfered. If the edge is sharp, chamfer it lightly.

Thanks for you’re in put! I have noticed it hangs up more with reloads than factory loads. I have polished what I could but the roughness still seems to be just where the chambers ramp ends as a round goes into the chamber, I wonder if I can polish this a little more? I have carefully checked for a bulge in the head of the cartridge and all seems fine! Any thoughts?:confused:
