Pulled The Trigger On My New Hunting Rifle

Many thanks to all of those that replied, to the several posts that I ran over the past month, on what caliber hunting rifle would be my next purchase.

After much debate and countless hours of research, I found myself standing on the edge looking down. What should I do, which way should I go, up or down. Should it be the 308, the 7MM Mag, The 30.06, the 300 Win Mag. Some even suggested that I look at the 338 Win Mag, why not go all the way they were tauting me... So I took a deep breath leaped off the edge, took the plunge and bought a...

Savage Weather Warrior
338 WIN MAG
Rate of Twist: 10
Weight: 7.15
Overall Length: 44.5
Barrel Length: 24
Ammo Capacity: 3
Cost $675 New In The Box

Now to sweat out the CA 10 cooling period before I can actually claim true ownership of this new beauty. Then mount that Bushnell Elite 4200 I have waiting for her in the closet. Then off to the range to slowly break her in... To wrap my hands around her and caress her and feel her warmth and power... ;)

Congrats on your new purchase. It is more caliber than I would have gotten, but none the less, looks like you got a nice one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do my Savage.

BOOM!!! (You gotta love it!) :D

After all the NON-magnum fans in this forum putting us big gun fans down I salute you!

10 day cooling period on a hunting rifle? Geesh...

.

That thing will seriously injure whatever you shoot with it. Seriously I have no problem with the guys who love their shoulder cannons. I'm just an old cripple with a lot of arthritis and I don't care for a rifle that will hurt me more than what I shoot. So, when I have to do some serious killin' I pull out the old .270 and get it on.;)

OK! I knew I'd catch some flack...

Already ordered the Vais Muzzle Brake.

Personal Antirecoil Device (P.A.D.) recoil pad

The Weather Warrior is equipped with Savage's new Personal Antirecoil Device (P.A.D.) recoil pad. Savage claims the new pad will reduce felt recoil by 45% from standard hard rubber OEM recoil pads. The new recoil pad itself is soft, supple, and spongy and has a touch and feel like other premium aftermarket recoil pads. Under fire, the pad actually expands across your shoulder and absorbs more of the shock of recoil, making it more of a pleasure to shoot. :D

Got the same rifle 2 years ago, except I mounted a 2.5x8 Leupold. No muzzle break on mine. I don't know why the .338 has such a reputation as a kicker; harder than a .375 H&H they say. With Nosler 200's at 2,950, it ain't that bad. "Loaded for bear" 250's at 2,700 can rattle your fillings, but I would much rather shoot this rifle than slugs from my 870. Shoots 2" groups at 200.

Not true, it's just hard to get a Moose or Elephant tag here in the US.(LOL)

It's a joke, don't take it personally.

Well, in Wisconsin a good buck weighs over 175 field dressed and a REALLY good one will go 200-240 field dressed. You figure the live weight. I know a guy who uses a .375 H&H on 'em. And doesn't wreck meat either! :D (He's about 6'4" and close to 300 lbs.).....

Actually a .243 would be okay on most but when you get a big one a .270 on up is better.

Bring that new .338 to Wisconsin and try it out!!
