Brought out one old school and one new school rifles for some backyard range time today. Henry .22 magnum and Ruger PCC in 9mm

Why are rifles called long gun, but pistols are not called short guns....

good looking rifles BTW. 22mag is a great cartridge. PC carbine is soo cool, but after i picked one up I put it right back, way too heavy for me,

After exhaustive research, it appears "long guns" are called "long guns" because they are . . . longer than pistols. :D You're welcome, you're welcome! Thank you for the applause!

And pistols apparently are called "hand guns" so as to keep them from being confused with "short arms" even though they are also held in the hand when being used.:D I suppose you could call them "short guns", but it sounds like it would hurt when firing. Video at a later date.

It was hard, but I managed to delve into the annals of history and the depths of ancient lore!
