Public Praire Dog hunting

I am new to this forum. Im looking to go to South Dakota praire dog hunting in the begining of June. I have never been praire dog hunting before and was just curious what kind of public land there is, if you can go without a guide and find good shooting.

I don't know about the rest of the state but the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands has lots of PDs.

The forest service use to mark PD towns on their maps, haven't had a BGNGL map in a long time so I don't know if they still do.

SD use to have a Non Resident License, again I don't know if they still do. It wasn't very much if I remember right.

Like I said, its been a while, I live in Wyoming so its hard to justify crossing over into SD for PDs when we have so many here.

If you go to the Buffalo Gap get a map of the plague areas I think you can get it through their office at Wall.

Shooting prairie dogs within the Conata Basin area of Buffalo Gap National Grassland is prohibited year-round since August 1, 1998."

I went out in the fall last year and had a good time. SD has a lot of private land that are "walk in" areas to hunt and as long as no livestock are present you can hunt. They have maps and the areas are well marked.

Thanks for the info guys. Where can I get the maps at? Is tribal land open year round for PD hunting?

Not sure about the maps, but make sure you don't forget your 30.06 for the full effect of PD huntin
