PT111 Gen 2 trigger - bad, but really that bad?

Bought a Taurus PT111 and Heritage Rough Rider combo at Academy, $300 for both guns. The Rough Rider is great but when I shot the PT111 for the first time today the trigger was beyond atrocious.

The trigger pull must be close to 15 pounds, I kid you not. I struggled to get the shots to break, I had to resort to snapping the trigger to get it to fire.

While I knew the trigger was not going to anything to write home about this was on a whole different level of terrible. I read several reviews before buying it and while the trigger was mentioned as not being good there is no way they had the experience of this particular pistol. I will contact Taurus about it, see what they say.

Hmm.. definitely doesn't sound right. I've had mine for 2 yrs or so and it came out of the box with a more than acceptable trigger. The kind of pull weight you describe would suggest a problem with the gun. Certainly not normal! Might contact Taurus and see what they say.

Definitely something wrong.

My G2 has a borderline excellent trigger. While not exactly a "light" trigger, it's almost what you'd call crisp, probably about 5 pounds or so, just guessing.

It's obviously not as crisp as the single action pull on a K frame smith, but it's better than MOST other striker fired pistols I've experienced.

Did you clean the gun before firing it? Mine was pretty well covered with the shipping oil they pack them in. I had to clean both the slide and frame inside and out. I could see how the striker channel could clog up. After a good cleaning and about 200 rounds the trigger is quite nice.

I had a G2 that I sold to my father in law. I hated the trigger, but it was the take up not the weight that I hated. I'd say mine was in the 5-5.5 range. If yours is that heavy, I definitely think there's something amiss.
