I have Trijicons installed on my Kahr, Mepros -- on my P229, and just tonight, a gunsmith put a PT front sight on my P239.
Why only the front sight, you may ask? Well, I've actually purchased the whole set, but here's what's happened. I bought PT's from www.arizonagunrunners.com for $59.95 + shipping (an excellent price, BTW) for both front and rear sights. After checking the PT web site first, I decided to choose the green front/blue rear set. On the web, they all looked bright and beautiful, but boy, was I deceived...
After my PT's came, and I checked them in the dark, I was shocked to realize I could BARELY see the rear blue one, so deem it was. I asked around and sure enough -- it was normal. Any colored night sights will be much less brighter (in case of my blue rear one -- barely glowing ) than those glowing in green.
To be honest, however, I'm relatively pleased with the PT front sight -- its size and brightness are almost indiscernible from the Trijicons on my Kahr. The only problem I foresee with the front one is that the surface of the glass radioluminescent capsule through which one sees the light sits much deeper inside the steel body of the sight. This could potentially be a source of small problems with cleaning for a "pit" that forms may accumulate some burned crap. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though.
The gunsmith who put them on my P239 decided to swap them with some of his MePros due to the fact, I think, that he may have damaged them. Well, I couldn't be more happier it happened. I probably wouldn't be able to stand the blue PT's.
And here's a news (at least to me it was) -- even though MeProlight doesn't have SIG Sauer P239 in their list of the handguns they make Tru-Dots for, their set for P229 fits just fine. "Why didn't you pick Mepros in the first place?", the gunsmith asked me, BTW...
So, now I have my smaller SIG with the front PT and the rear MeproLight (the both sights' height numbers are appropriate, though). The combination works. The Mepro rear sight's glowing windows are noticeably larger than the PT front one, but it doesn't create any trouble of aiming the gun.
MeproLights are, overall, my favorite -- I got a set for a P229 from R Guns. They don't have a web site, but here's the phone (847)428-3569. The cost is $59.00 + shipping which is a great price, IMO.
The Trijicons were actually sold to me directly by Kahr -- so in case if anybody wonders what brand the Kahr night sights might be, they're genuine Trijicons.
The intensity of light emition is overall the same for all three brands -- I spent considerable amount of time trying to figure which one of the three is actually brighter. Trijicons and PT are almost the same in size, smaller than MeproLights, and thus, look somewhat sharper. The latter, on the other hand, are not as sharp, but I actually prefer their bigger size for a quick target acquisition.
The bottom line, people -- steer clear from buying those PT colored sights, especially blue ones. I have yet to see red, yellow, or orange ones, but PT's regular green-colored sights work just great -- if you like Trijicons, you may want to give PT a try. And for less $$$, BTW.
