I'm looking to put one together and I have a question about the front trunion. Since I got no reply in the Smithy part of the forum. If anyone has any experience building AKs I guess the assembly is very similar.

I've seen kits with the front trunions pressed onto the barrels already and I'm wondering if I have to push the trunion off the barrel, rivet it into the receiver, then push the barrel back in. Or if I can rivet it into the receiver without pushing the barrel out?

I don't see how you can buck the rivets with the barrel in place. It has to come out, get riveted, then reinstalled and pinned.

to be donw right the barrel needs to be pressed out of the trunnion before the trunnion is riveted.

I have heard of people using the barrel itself to buck the rivets. You'd have to use longer than standard length rivets though or use a shim to make up the distance between the trunnion and barrel shank.

I have a tool for bucking rivets that I used for an old job. I think I'd be worried about using the barrel for it. This is the first gun I've put together that requires all the riveting (Haven't done an AK or any of it's brothers/sisters yet.).
