PSL and .311 vs .308 dia's

I had worked up some loads for my SSG-97/PSL/Romak3 (in 7.62x54r) using .308 dia 150 gr Sierra match kings and thought I had best accuracy at about 2-2.5 MOA. I figured the match bullet was the way to go. The rifles are allegedly timed and set up for 150 grs. A .311 match goes about 174 gr, so I chose the .308/150's. Lots of manuals show .308 dia for x54R so I figured why not?

An earlier thread advised to try .311 bullets and I have, but only on a limited scale. Results are promising. Using a very basic Speer 150 PSP, .311 dia, and a VERY limited amount of shooting, 3 rd 100 yd groups are running 1.5 MOA.

That's pretty slick from an AK on steroids, combloc 8x scope, and a trigger that moves like a dowel rod in a cup of rocks.

I got another tip on improving accuracy in the PSL, ,and will start another thread soon after giving the suggestion a try.

I use sierra pro-hunters .311 in 150 gr. #2300. 48gr of H-4895 with OAL of 2.995 on JMS-02 brass. Very accurate on both the 91/30 and the M44.

Hey,

Don't want to create a reloading thread........but H4895 is one of the powders I have tried and as I stated, its looking good. The other is Varget. My loads are considerably milder, but I cannot get anywhere near 2.9 COAL in the bang/slam feeding auto.

Do tell, what is JMS-2 brass?????

Back on track, I am tickled to death w/ the PSL. Its a ***** cat to shoot, the combloc scope is holding up,and the ranging system is pretty much math free. Reliable so far, but sometimes getting mags loaded just so for first round feed is a challenge. The military 10 rd mag is much better at that than the civilian 5 rder.

The scope mount gave me fits for a long while, till I got it adjusted right for tightness.

I stay w/ 3 rd groups, well spaced, so that the noodle barrel does not over heat.

How might the match bullets do at 200 and 300 yards? I'm very interested in a decent medium to long range rifle and if the PSL can do well out to around 500-600 yards that's a great bargain for an autoloader in that class.
