PSA carbine?

Ok so I'm thinking that I'm going to spend a fair portion of my tax return the same way that I always do... buying guns! I'm looking at the PSA 16'' M4-V Chrome Lined Carbine with Vortex Optic. I live in the area of the factory and figure I can buy direct from them, but the $700 price has me wondering. If it seems to be too good to be true and all...

Just wondering what you all have for a take on these carbines and also the vortex optic. would it be a better deal to go with the stripped carbine for $100 less, and purchase my own optic?

Build it for about 200 less. Just don't buy the stripped lower and the kit plus upper the same day. That avoids the exise tax on the whole kit. Hold off until PSA has one of their famous sales at 49.00 for the stripped lower. My total flattop ran 520.00. 16" no optics so I could use my Reflex. Love this carbine.

What R.Ph. 380 said. If I lived close to PSA I would have all my cards maxed:D The PSA pricing has killed the resale on used AR's. Now you can build a mil-spec rifle for $500 or less.

I live less than two hours from PSA I have been there twice. I was going to drive up there yesterday and get one of the 5.56 uppers for $379.00, but the guy on the phone said even in person the Internet orders come first he said I was better off to just order it online. So living with in driving distance is actualy going to cost me more because I have to pay SC sales tax.

Takes about 2 weeks for PSA to ship their guns, because they only have the parts and build them to order.

I ordered a kit from them on Black Friday, it arrived yesterday. :D

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll go to the factory for the stripped lower when they hit 49.99 to avoid FFL stuff, then buy the upper and rest of the lower online and build my own. Haven't built one yet but I'm pretty mechanically competent (few engine builds/ axle builds under my belt).

Just don't buy the stripped lower and the kit plus upper the same day. That avoids the exise tax on the whole kit.

Every time I've been there, they just ring the stripped lower up as a seperate transaction. no need to go on two separate days.

Palmetto-Pride

Palmetto-Pride, I have bought online and entered into the comment section for them not to ship and that I would pick the purchase at the store in person. It has worked for me and because of their promise of an active inventory system prevents you from buying something that is not in stock. Just drive to Columbia and pick it up at the store. I am surprised the sales person did not suggest that to you.
