Grinning from ear to ear. I just picked up my new Ruger 22/45 with the 5.5 inch bull barrel. Been wanting one of these for a while.

Okay, here's the question. How hard is it to detail strip this pistol because there is enough oil on it and in the action to refine it and put gas in my car? I have heard that these can be pretty tricky to put back together once they are apart. What do I need to do special to make it easier?

I will give a range report when I get back from this weekend.

Thanks for the help!!

Follow the instructions and you shouldn't have any problems. These pistols strip very easily.

One thing I can suggest, that I haven't done yet but I've heard very good things about... is cut a small square of alum. soda can (or beer) that fits between the barrel and trigger assembly in the frame, as that gets very dirty. Somebody makes a 'shield' for the regular MkII's but not the 22/45. Once you get it apart you'll probably see what I mean..

You'll certainly notice the crud after shooting ;-)

Congrats on your new .22/45.

Best tip I can give is seperate the reciever/barrel from the frame and limit any detail stripping to the reciever/barrel. Don't mess with the frame part too much. There's a spring loaded ball detent in the safety that will end up somewhere in the next zip code when/if you do. The ball is between this size . and this size o
