Protected by Smith & Wesson stickers

My first new S&W came with a sticker/decal that said Protected by S&W, but my last four new S&Ws didn't come with the decal.

Any of you ever got that sticker with your new S&W? First was a Sigma SW9VE 4-5 years ago. I proudly have it on my front door although I sold the gun.

I would also like to get a T-shirt to wear it at the range. Yes, I carry a S&W.:D

I've never bought a new S&W, but I've collected other stickers. While I don't think its such a good idea to publicly display them, I couldn't bring myself to throw them away so I put them on the inside of one of my range boxes and only get seen at the range when its open.

The only people who ever sent me stickers was Madsen's Shop and Supply in Centralia, Washington. But they aren't the ones who made Madsen machine guns.

I personally would never display such stickers, and especially on my house or vehicle. It might read "Protected by Smith and Wesson", but what it really says is, "Attention, Mr. Burglar: Wait until we're gone for the day, and then come help yourself to at least one really nice firearm."

I agree that displaying one of these stickers on your home or vehicle is sort of inviting a burglary. I do like the stickers, however and might display one in my garage where I reload or in my gun room (closet).

Good point, KMAX; I take back what I said earlier, or at least, I take back my use of the word "never". I guess displaying stickers such as these would be okay in some places other than the home exterior, or on your vehicle [range gear, gun closet, etc.].

If the shooting that you were engaged in is not the Internet certified 'good shoot' and you are charged, I would argue (from other real world cases), the sticker might be used as an indication of premeditation.

Also, it does say - Free gun when I am not home!

Next, if you get into an altercation with a neighbor over the usual- they just might call the law and say you were trying to intimidate the neighborhood, blah, blah.

I don't see the upside of announcing such.

Of course, carrying a gun could be a sign of premeditation, too. If you didn't think you were going to shoot something, why did you have a gun, right?

I have received a few stickers over the years and as the general consensus states do not publicly display them.

What I have done is purchased some of that flat magnetic rubber material and stuck the stickers to it. I then cut out the stickers and have magnets as matter of fact I’m looking at a SIG SAUER magnet right now. This way I can display them on cabinets or something similar, but can easily remove them if need be.

Great idea, Barry, about the magnets. That sounds pretty cool, but I don't think my wife would like MY "refrigerator magnets". She would tell me to stick them somewhere else. I mean like my tool box or something. I just have my stickers tacked to my bulletin board above my reloading bench.

Even though I’m a single guy I still don’t really like a lot of crap on my frig. I basically use them either in my shop or office area. As I said when the bug man or other service guy comes I can quickly stick them on the inside of the cabinet until their gone.

OP

Any of you ever got that sticker with your new S&W?

So I guess 12 no's.

Good point, it's kind of like posting beware of dog, except beware of owner. Hey, I warned you.

I thought about that, it could attracted the wrong attention from the wrong people, but at the same time it say's "go ahead make my day".

Of course, carrying a gun could be a sign of premeditation, too. If you didn't think you were going to shoot something, why did you have a gun, right?

Another good point

Funny, I can keep a loaded gun on my front seat of my car, but it's illegal to have loaded guns in my trunk, something like with intent.

I was prepared for these comment's, that's why I stated it that way. It's pretty simple.

Now what did I do with that razor blade?

Thanks, I'm going to run as fast as I can and remove that sticker ASAP!

NOT! LOL:p

Carrying a gun as premeditation? Sounds far fetched. In one case, a guy had a financial dispute with person X. Our guy always OC'ed. He went to X to get him to settle up. X attacked him but it was ambiguous to the law. The DA claimed among other things that OC indicated premeditation.

Case was mentioned in the American Rifleman. Our guy was convicted and his lawyer was less than competent. Under apply for inadequate representation if I recall.

It's clear that normal gun involvement can be used against. No reason to give the prosecution more ammo, so to speak, with tough guy, shoot 'em posturing.
