2NG,
I haven't competed with that group in several years, but in IHMSA we used to shoot T/C Contenders & XP100's in "Creedmore" and "Sideways" positions. Both positions give you a really steady sight platform, with the "sideways" position being a fair amount more solid, though you do have the disadvantage of having to re-adjust your sights for an upright position.
Both these shooting styles were ubiquitous in both the Production and Unlimited categories. There were guys who could hit 200 yard chickens all day long using these two styles. Remember, this is with iron sights too.
In the Standing Category(Offhand), you didn't see any long barrel T/C's, only the 10" versions and the revolvers (note: if memory serves, this was because you were restricted to Production class handguns in Standing). A persons arm muscles just aren't designed to steadily support the forward weight of a 14" bull barrel T/C in an extended position.
best regards,
Swampy
