Promag high-cap Glock magazines

I've seen decent prices on pre-ban high-cap mags manufactured by Promag (9mm only for glock 19 and 17). Anybody have any feedback on them, pro or con? I've used them before and never had any problems, although they are polymer only, and do not have a metal liner like glock factory mags. On the other hand, they are costing about 1/3 of pre-ban glock mags these days. Would be interested in hearing about anyone's experience with them, especially whether or not they hold up over time.

thanks for reading,
Jared

The biggest problem with the ProMags is that if you have a problem and send the magazine back, California law requires that the magazine be destroyed. ProMag doesn't tell you this before you send it back, you get to find out the hard way.

I've got four Promag G19 mags. But these mags are FML. They work very well. Never had a problem with any of them...

Blades: At a gun show several months ago I purchased 22 Pro-Mag 15 round mags for the Glock 19, they were the unlined models. They wouldn't hold more than 2 rounds without falling apart. I called Promag and they told me if I sent them back in for repair they would have to destroy them, they gave me the option of waiting untill they established a business premises outside of the People's Republic of Kalifornia or exchange them for another brand of mags. I told them it would not be fair to exchange 15 round mags for 8 round Springfield mags so they told me they would send me 44 Springfield 1911 mags in place of my 22 Glock mags. This is GREAT service. PERIOD.
On the other hand, I have cases of original Glock 17 17+2 mags purchased before the ban, but I use Promag FML 17 round mags exclusively at the range and have yet to have any problems.

I've had 14 (six for my 17/34 and eight for my 19) of the steel lined polymer mags made by Pro-Mag for several years. They have all been reliable for me. The original springs were a little wimpy and I replaced them after about six months of constant use with Wolff brand springs. Other than that, they have been trouble free. I have a bunch of Pro-Mag brand mags for the Ruger P series and S&W 59xx series and they have all been reliable as well.

No FML Promags for me

I purchased 30 PROMAGs (not FML) for a Glock 19--loaded 5 at a time w/15 rounds and laid them aside. Rounds would pop out while the mags were lying on a dresser--found rounds all over the place. Some of the mags never lost a round--took these to the range and found rounds had popped out in transit.

I'll make someone a "REALLY GREAT DEAL" on the 28 mags I have left.

Promag made three types of preban mags: all plastic, all metal, and FML Glock clones. The last are really excellent with the exception of the mag springs. Glock factory spring are $3 or $4 from Glock and fix the problem. I have no experience with the all metal, but way back I traded some all plastic for the FML ones with promag.

Promag seems to do well sometimes, my Witness 15 rd. mag was very nice, but some of their stuff, like Kahr and P7 mags, seems to be junk.

FML and new spring. You're golden.

A couple of questions:

1. Does Pro-Mag make FML mags for the G21?

2. Where can a guy find these things? (Only interested in the FML, from what I've read.) I'd be wanting them for my G21 (if available) and G19.

I have four of the Glock 17 Promags. I also had four for a G19, which I sold. The four G17 magazines I have left, will feed great with FMJ ammunition, but not hollow points. I use them for range mags, I wouldn't bet my life on them though. What I had to do to get to function was change the springs, followers, and floor plates. I filed down the front lip of the mag tube to get them to feed with out hanging up in the mag. The reason I changed the follower was because the old one held the round lower than it was supposed to be. I had been getting constant nosedives. I still can’t get them to feed any hollow points 100% of the time, mine will however feed 40’s in a G22. They are a tight fit, but it works.:)

Have 4 of the FML 15 round ProMags for my Glock 19. Never had any trouble of any kind with any of them. They keep feedin' and the Glock keeps eatin' any and all factory and reloaded ammo.
Take Care

Glockster35:
Yes, I tried .40 cal in Promag fml G19 mags, wouldn't feed in a G23.
You may be able to modify them, but I didn't try.

Jaredr:
You may notice a trend here.
People who have Promag fml mags that are older seem to think they are ok.
Newer ones, not so great.
That is my experience also.
Before (or just after) the ban I had a G19 mag, used it in a G26.
Excellent range mag.
Later bought a G17 mag used it a G17. Also worked great.

Recently bought a G19. Got 4 new mags from CDNN Investments.
All had problems. Jams, not locking open on last round, etc.
Tried Glock springs and followers, actually made problems worse.
The good news is, if you buy from CDNN, all you lose is shipping cost (both ways) if they mess up.
On the other hand, Glock brand nfml mags are just $60 each from http://www.ivanhoeoutlet.com .
That was the better solution for me.

Shoot safe, have fun.
