Recently I have had the opportunity to test some ProLoad ammo in my Glocks 30 & 34. To say I am impressed is an understatement!

Accurate, reliable, and reasonably priced are the worst things I can say. Have any of you other pistol shooters tried ProLoad? How did you like it?

Good shooting

I've used quite a lot of Proload ammunition and I have never been disappointed by its performance and consistency... I've used their 115gr. and 124gr. +P 9mm, 135gr. and 165gr. .40 S&W, and their 180gr. .45 auto... Great company and great owner...

Ran a 100 rds of Pro-Load 124gr+P JHP through my K9 this morning. Probably my erratic shooting but I was more accurate with the Pro-Load than with the Golden Sabre I had been using. Unscientific I know but the P-L seemed just right. Amazing quality for inexpensive ammo.

I just switched my carry ammo over from 180gr Black Talon to ProLoad's 165gr Gold Dot (in .40auto). I put about 40 rounds downrange this afternoon and had a blast :) My USP just loves the stuff.

The worst thing you can say about ProLoad is that it will not home in on the target and explode when it gets there. Everything else is good. I still cannot figure out how Remington, Federal, etal manage to sell any premium ammo.

I'm curious why so many people like ProLoad over Speer Gold-Dots. they both use the same gold-dot hollow point. how come it seems a lot more people use proload than speer?

i think i've heard that speer gold-dots go a bit faster than proload. is this true?

Aside from all the good press that the ProLoad gets around here, I went with their .40 over the Speer loads because Speer dropped their 165gr load. The Speer Gold Dot (as far as I can tell) only comes in 155 gr. More power Scotty!!!

Phone rings about an hour ago,I p/u and it's John, the owner of Pro Load. Wants to know how I like the ammo he sent me. Hard to believe,eh. Talked for about 40 minutes. Really great guy,now I know why his ammo's so good. He cares! :)

If I didn't make ammo I'd buy Pro Load.

John is a good guy......and one of us.

Russell92,

I started using Proload's 165 gr. gold dot a long time ago. Back then, Speer was not loading their version as hot (lower velocity) as Proload was. As time went on, Speer did load their 165 gr. hotter, and the velocity difference was no more... I guess that I just stayed with what I started out with... I was just too satisfied to give up Proload...

I have not used Speer's loaded ammo, so I cannot say from experience, but I have been told that one difference is that Pro-Load uses reduced flash powders. Something to consider from a tactical standpoint...

OK, so how about contact info for those of us not already "in the loop"???

I don't CARE about pretty....I just want dangerous.

i dunno. pro-load gold-dots are cheaper than speer gold-dots so for some reason i thought they were cheaper made. but with all these great things i'm hearing i guess i was wrong.

is it easier to find 9mm 124gr+P Pro-load or Speer? i'm looking for some and can't find it anywhere.

Well, I have yet to see Pro-Load on the shelves of a local store. Speer is common though. I ordered my Pro-Load from www.ammoman.com. It is cheaper than most premium defense loads (9mm+P 124gr for 8.60), but the price is not at all reflective of its quality. Good stuff.

I have enjoyed reading this thread, and I am seriously thinking of buying and testing some of the Proloads, however, nowhere have I seen any reference to Proloads in comparison to Federal Hydrashoks. I have used them very satisfactorily for many years, and have read about many very extensive tests especially the comprehensive FBI tests. How do the Proloads stack up to the Hydrashocks?????

Thanks anyone for your input.

Glad to see many of you TFLers have discovered what I've been saying for the past couple years: ProLoad is the best!

There are some loads that are faster than ProLoad, but faster does not always equal better. Many hollowpoint bullets are designed with a specific velocity range in mind. (For example, if you push a Gold Dot too fast, it has a tendency to expand too quickly sacrificing penetration.) John has tested and determined the velocity of each load so that they yield optimum terminal ballistics, while maintaining consistency, accuracy, and reliability.

Give him a call!

At $10.80 per box of 20 for premium 165gr .40 cal rounds they beat quite a few other companies. John took my order the other day and was a great guy to talk to.
