Just read the article in GT about this rifle and since I'm in the market for a .223 AR rifle, I was wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with this model? The light weight does appeal to me.

Just did a search on AR-15.com and found NO POSITIVE posts about the Carbon-15's.Seems most owners are sending them back 3-4 times for repairs.I guess G/T got the only good 97s that PO makes:(

I own a Carbon-15 Model 97 rifle. I've screwed around with it for a year, and finally on the last trip back to PO, they appear to have fixed it. Not completely, because the gas block on the bolt carrier was loose when I got it back, I had to fix that and stake it myself before I could shoot it. I put about 80 rounds through it today without one single jam, it's never fired 10 rounds before without a stoppage.

I stop short of declaring it fixed, that will take a number of additional trips to the range. I would recommend anyone shopping for a rifle should shop elsewhere, but I may grow to like the little gun if it keeps shooting well! :)

I have a Carbon 15 type 97 and this gun has been 100% reliable and this gun was made in 1999. I bought the gun 6 months ago from (Cheaper than Dirt) in Ft. Worth Texas. The gun was sold as used but had never been shot because someone bought it before Y2K thinking the World was going to end and when it didn't they sold it to (CTD) a couple years later. The gun looked new and was in the original box with warranty papers and manual. I mounted a red dot on it and it gets about 2 inch grps at 100yds. My wife considers this to be her gun which is fine with me because I just bought a Bushmaster XM15 W/20" barrel and I like this gun better because it has better accuracy out to 300yds and I like iron sights better than optics (one less thing to go wrong). I feel blessed to have both these guns and the only other battle rifle I want is an M1A Springfield. Both of the AR's are absolutly awsome to shoot at the range and perform exactly as they were designed to. It sorrows me to here that some people are having problems with there Carbon15's. Maybe only the the lemon guns are getting any attention on the net and all the 1000's of happy customers are being quiet because they have no complaints.

Well, if only lemon guns get attention on the net, PO is still getting more attention for the Carbon-15 than any other AR that I've ever seen! I'm happy you have a working one, but many people got the non-working variety.

Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere on TFL, Ar15.com, 1911forum.com or GlockTalk.com, that there was a class action lawsuit involving the Carbon 15 weapons.

It had to do with their reliability and how many trips back to the manufacturer the guns were needing. I would say that if you have one that works, be happy, but I don't have first hand knowledge.

Again, not to start a flame war!

I've seen the thread about the class action suit, but I'm not sure it ever got off the ground. Personally, before I turn to lawyers, I let market forces react to product quality. I've certainly soured several Carbon-15 sales personally. Now that I think my rifle may be working, I probably won't be as hard on them, but it'll be a long time before I actually recommend a Carbon-15 to anyone.

I've had one for a couple of years and it has been reliable and is sub-moa. Great balance and perfect with tac. light and good red-dot sight. Just mounted an Aimpoint. Previously, had a Japanese red-dot that fell apart. This is my SHTF gun.

P O is now advertizing a carbon AR upper that can go on any standard AR type rifle. Has anyone seen one of these yet? The suggested retail is $599 but I have seen it advertized for $499. Their ad claims that the upper will reduce the overall weight of a standard AR by over 2 lbs. It sounds very cool IF IT WORKS!

Mine works very well, thank you..mounted a Holo-Sight on it, and I think it`s great..did add a recoil pad, little butt plate gets to hurt after 100 rds. or so..

GUNNY: Where did you get your butt pad from? I would like to get one for my gun but can't find one that fits from anyone so far. Let me know if you read this ..thanks for reply ..john

I think I got it from, "Cheaper Than Dirt", it`s the small one made for the CAR, 3 position butt stock..Darm thing fit right on, filled it with silicone, and buddy it sure as hell is stuck on the rifle...
