procedures when shipping a gun

I have sold a few guns lately and have shipped them via UPS or Fed-Ex to FFL holders. I have read that I must notify UPS/Fed-Ex that these packages contain guns which I do, but how should you go about it? I mean I hand them the box and tell the guy at the counter it is a handgun and he just looks at me like I am stupid with the "why are you telling me this look" I told him I was required to tell him about it and he said he had never heard of anything like that. Is there some kind of special form I need to fill out or is just telling bubba at the counter good enough?

The "requirement" is a UPS/FedEX "policy", not a law.
If one wants to get technical UPS policy is that one party or the other (shipper or receiver) have an FFL and an account with UPS. None of it is law....just their in company policy.
