Problems with Winchester ammo??

I've heard some bad stories about Winchester ammo in the white box with the "Made in USA" logo. I bought about a dozen boxes of 45 ACP not too long ago, but I haven't fired any of it yet. From what I've read recently, I'm half afraid to load it into one of my expensive guns. I'd much appreciate and comments from anyone who has experience with this ammo.

I haven't heard of any, or had any myself.

There was a recall of Winchester Wildcat .22 ammo a few months ago.

You can do a board search and pull up the lot numbers involved.

As far as I know, though, ONLY Wildcat ammo was affected.

I have heard, both directly and indirectly, of consistent problems with Winchester White Box (9mm fmj).

The folks who seem to have consistent feeding problems are generally shooting White Box.

Ditto extraction problems -- seems that the specs on their cases are a little different than most other rounds; the indentation for the extractor is cut differently, I'm told.

But you'll find other folks who swear by it (instead of AT IT.) Walmart must own a piece of Winchester...

I just shoot CCI Blazer, Magtech, Sellier & Bellot, PNP, or Denel -- whichever is cheapest when I'm getting low on ammo.

There's a group of four of us that have been using the Winchester 9mm for about the last month. In that time, we've gone through about 2,000 rounds on our Friday trip to the range. I can't think of any failures that any of us have encountered. We're shooting a couple of Rugers , a Smith and a CZ.

The only problem I've ever had with the Winchester USA brand is that it never seems to last long. Sometimes it doesn't even make it home! (Except for the brass, that always seems to get home with me.):D

There seemed to be some problems with it over at the HS2000 board for awhile, FTEs w/9mm. They also had some problems with other brands.

I have shot a bit of it in 9mm, .40S&W, .38spl and .357mag. Have had no problems to date. Autoloaders are both Rugers.

Went to the range with a couple friends about a month ago. They had problems with the USA .40S&W. They were shooting it in a Sig, Glock, Ruger and an HK. I let them shoot some S&B I had with and they experienced no problems with it. Since, I have put three or four boxes of the Winchester USA through my Ruger with no problems. Just fired a box through a Glock 23, no problems.

My perception is that they may be having sporadic quality problems, at least with the .40S&W. It may be that specific lot numbers or a specific manufacturing location may be involved - no facts at hand. The folks at the HS2000 board will probably say the same with the 9mm that they seem to be having problems with.

I've shot lots of the .45 JHP and FMJ with no problems.

In my Glock, Sig, and Kahr, the 9mm has been flawless, but it exacerbates an existing extraction/ejection problem in my CZ. That's a combination of case spec and bad parts in the gun. Speer runs much better in the CZ, but still not perfectly.

I've shot uncounted rounds of Winchester white box 9mm FMJ with no problems of any kind. This is in guns ranging from Glocks to S&Ws. In fact, it's my preferred ammo, balancing cost with quality. Still, I guess bad lots of any ammo can be manufactured from time to time.

YMMV.

The .45 ACP JHp and FMJ work well in all of my guns. In fact, it's some of the cleaner burning ammo I've used.

I'll run them through the chronograph one of these days when I have some free time.

I buy the 100-pack of White Box FMJ for practice ammo, Wally World has a good price. Never a problem in my Ruger P95. I did once get a bad round of 32ACP White Box. One round only, the case had peeled back along one side of the bullet and it would not chamber.

Win White Box is good stuff

I've shot a ton of it in my Beretta 9mm and haven't experienced a single problem with it. Thats JHP and FMJ.

The only serious concern I have is with those other bums getting to Wally World before I do and buying all the white box they have in stock... I hate that.

I've heard that the 100 count 9mm box has more problems than the 50 round box but I shoot both w/o problems. I have noticed that my accuracy is not as good as when I shoot S&B or CCI

The White Box 9 MM won't feed in my Kel-Tec P-11, but it seems to work for some others. It does have a slightly differently shape than Remington, which works fine in the Kel-Tec and in my other 9 MM pistols.

The consensus is clearly that the White Box Winchester is safe to shoot. I will use it, therefore. I thank you all for replying to my concern.
