Problems with suppressor

I have a friend with a Buckmark that has a suppressor installed on it. The gun runs fine without the can and terrible with. He has tried various brands of ammo and still gets failure to load the first round out of a magazine as well as jams during a string with the same magazine.

The problems go away when the can is removed.

I have no clue why the first round out of a magazine would fail to load and the intermittent failures in the same magazine must be attributable to something else.

What would be the most obvious things to look for?

If it runs fine with other magazines than it's a magazine problem. If it does the same with other magazines than it's probably the weight of the suppressor on the end of the barrel causing the feed ramp / action to shift positions in the stock. Check to make sure the barrel and action screws are tight?

Thanks for the reply. I had not thought of that. I will tell the guy who owns the gun. I gave him a new magazine and the gun runs fine with it. . .until the can is put on.

Thanks much for the tip.

Who made the can?

A well-made one might change POI, but still won't degrade accuracy. A defective or poorly designed can could certainly cause an issue. Weight of the can would not cause an issue if the stock is properly bedded. The weight could certainly change the harmonics, but that's the POI change and for the vast majority can be compensated for by the shooter as a "known" and consistent variable.

If the rifle still won't group with the can, regardless of mag, but shoots well without it, my vote would be it's the can causing the problem.
