Problems with Ruger SRH 454

Hello all. Has anyone else had a problem with the scope mounting grooves on a SRH 454? Mine are WAY off, and I've been strugling with Ruger's customer service for quite a while now. To make a long story short, it's in for the same problem a second time, cust.serv. has been nothing but rude and unhelpfull, and now I'm told they are milling the frame of my bran new gun! Have any of you guys run into this? They've admitted they messed up, but still wont pay for shipping back to them, and I've had to call 3 times to talk to someone about it because they won't return a phone call.

I like the gun otherwise, but this problem and the service is really turning me off. Your experience or two cents would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ruger will fix for free. But IIRC, they rarely pay for shipping. They don't even have a toll free number. Gotta keep costs down.

black&blue,

I am sorry to hear about your issues with Ruger. They have always been very helpful with any of my customers. As far as shipping goes, I agree with SnWnMe, they seldom cover that. Our shop has always stood behind the guns we sell, so we pay the shipping when there is an issue. I would speak to the owner of the shop you bought it in. If your business means enough to him, he should be helping you out with this. He might not pay for it, but either him, or his distributer should be able to get the ball moving on this situation. Also, I will note that Ruger seldom replaces a gun that can be fixed. I have yet to have a customer who was not happy with what was sent back. I hope you are happy in the end. Good luck.

I've had to return three guns to the factory in my life. One Colt, one Ruger, and one S&W. Colt & Smith paid for shipping, Ruger wouldn't.

How are your mounting grooves "off"? Left/right or up/down? More than once, I've shimmed rings left or right to make a set work on a particular gun without any problem.

Ruger has not changed it's ways and you will always pay the freight even it is there fault .they fixed my .44 mag black hawk 3 times and never got it right ,I had to sell it at a cheap price (told buyer about problem)and never recouped my freight .this was 20 years ago and I have never bought another ruger again ,and never will.
