Problems with Ruger No1 International

I recently got a No1 International in 7x57. When it arrived, the scope base was crooked, so we sent it back to Ruger. When it came back we then mounted a fixed 4x scope on it, but the but the scope cannot be mounted far enough back for proper eye relief. In addition to that, we discovered that the mount, which is integral to the rifle, is still crooked, and furthermore, when looking from the muzzle end, the front sight is canted to the left. It obviously has to go back to Ruger again, but I am wondering if any of you have any suggestions for mounting a scope that affords better eye relief. A longer scope, or what?

You can get offset rings that allow a small adjustment to the rear. Or get a scope with more eye relief. what scope are you currently using?

Well, I first put a Nikon Buckmaster on it, and it worked OK, but it was really long, so I opted for a more compact Leupold fixed 4x scope, which is the one that has too much eye relief.

There is also the issue of the canted barrel, and/or front sight, and the still-crooked scope mount. The mount is angled across the barrel. Never seen that before.

I'm very frustrated. It is such a beautiful rifle, and I really want it to work.

CMDC:

You really need to talk to a Ruger technician and they will fix the problem. Ruger doesn't want any of their guns that doesn't work properly in their customers' hands. Ruger has the best warranty in the industry: if it's broke fix it.

You bought a $1k rifle and it was defective out of the box.

Ruger couldn't fix it in one go.

DEMAND a REPLACEMENT rifle or a REFUND - and have your Dealer
Back you UP !

Ruger has NO warranty: if it's broke (they) fix it.

Fixed it.

While they offer no warranty on their firearms, they do stand behind their products (especially in a case where the fault is on their end), and provide some of the best customer service in the industry.

A lot of Ruger No. 1 owners with Internationals or 1A's like smaller scopes. The same owner may have a 1B with a more common 3-9X variable on it, in the same caliber (!).

You said your scope had too much eye relief, but if it can't be mounted far enough back for a proper sight picture, that is too little eye relief. As stated, that is common with Ruger No. 1's.

I have a Ruger No. 1 with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X and it works fine without offset rings. It has an honest 4" of eye relief, which allows a proper sight picture without "crawling the stock".

My No.1 in 7mmMag has a regular Bausch and Lomb 3X9X40 scope on it with a decent eye relief, its close but works. Maybe the International is different but if I got a new rifle I ordered with that many issues, I'd of refused delievery or demanded that the firearm be replaced with another one. If that gun has that many issues straight from the factory then there's a big problem with the entire gun.

I appreciate your comments/suggestions. The gun is going back again, and I am sure Ruger will fix it, hopefully by replacing it with another rifle. As to the scope issue, yes, it cannot be mounted back far enough. The scope issue is minor compared to the other issues the rifle has. The guys at the gun shop are good guys, and I am a very good customer, so I know they'll take care of me.
