Problems with new SBE2 already

I bought my SBE2 in June. I put over 500 rounds through it during dove season in Sep. and it didn't give me any problems. Then I put about 500 more 3 1/2 rounds through during this duck season and it was fine.
Now all of a sudden it is giving me all kinds of grief. Before you read this keep in mind that I am very nice to my gun and clean it after every 30 rounds or so. I am talking about taking it apart and cleaning everything and slightly lubing everything up exactly according to the manufactor.

What it does every 5th round of shots or so, it is taking the third shell and instead of loading it into the chamber it is acually spitting it out of my gun 4 feet away. No wonder I have been going through so many shells. The first 5 times it happened I just thought that I had frogotten to put in the third shell. But a couple of weeks ago I acually saw it out of the corner of my eye fly form my gun and I went and picked it up and cussed very loud because I could have doubled on a set of greeneheads. This has happened a total of about 12 times in the last month.

Now I have switched ammunuition and it has'nt spit out a full shell yet. What it is doing now is, not loading the third shell completely into the chamber. I just have to give it a little push and then I can shoot it. I am happy doing that because at least I can get three shots out of it but still I loose time doing that.

I called Benelli and they told me to send it in but I would'nt get it back until after duck season. I just thought that if you spend $1200 on a brand new gun it should function properely for at least the first duck season.
I hope no one has this many problems. I have heard nothing but god about the SBE2 that is why I bought it.

Any ideas?

Dosn't anyone have any ideas on how this problem can be fixed or solved. I am going to send it back to Benelli but not until after the season.

Merry X-mas

Well, I took the troublesome super black devil II out for another spin last weekend. I don't know why I keep putting myself through this grief but sense I spent so much money I wanted to use it. It started spitting out the third shell again consitintantly, so I thought I would outsmart it and only put in two shells. Well just my luck it started spitting that one out as well. I just can't win. My gun is the offical SBEII one shot wonder!
I wish Benelli would give me some advice over the phone or pay for a local gunsmith to check it out.
After duck season I am going to send it in and hopefully they either reconditon it or replace it. Regardless I am going to sell it because I am going to go for a over and under. Not much can go wrong with that hopefully. If anyone wants the one shot wonder after I get it back form Benelli the first 800 dollars takes it.

I had trouble with the SBE too.

Get a SuperX2 if you want a 3.5" auto that works on time every time. It will also be about $400 less than the SBE.

I am not sure if they transfer over or not. All I know is it has a five year warranty, but you have to send it in, you can't have a regular gunsmith do it and get reimbursed. I am pretty damn sore about this whole issue. I get a sick feeling in my belly everytime I think about my gun. It took a year of working overtime and a lot of begging from my wife to get it. Now this coming weekend I am going to hunt with a 150 dollar mossberg and shoot alot more birds because I will get three shots for sure. I wish my Benelli was that dependable. :( :( :(

Cartridge stops

Sounds to me like your cartridge stops don't have enough free play between them. Try this check, see if you can move the shell slightly when it is held in place in the mag tube. You need a few thousandths movement between them. You could remove some material off of the primary stop on the very front of it if there isn't any movement with a file, or belt sander or sand paper by hand if you don't have acces to a sander. I think what is happening is that the round drops out of the gun because it isn't loaded onto the carrier and the round drops out underneath it as the carrrier is lifted up to load the round because it is binding in the stops. Just a thought.

cntryboy1289,
Are you talking about the little ear that holds the cartridge into the magazine. I did'nt really understand what you said about have some movement, can you put it into a sentence that a 5th grade dumb ironworker can understand? Thanks alot for the input.

no problem

What I am referring to is the thing that has the ear on it that prevents the round from popping rearward out of the magazine. I went back and looked at my Benelli which is the Super 90. Let me ask you this, is the third or whatever round being ejected or is it falling out of the gun? If it is just falling out the bottom, I think the cartridege stop is allowing 2 shells to pop out of the magazine. One at the right time, and one just after the round is being lifted by the carrier, which means it will drop out of the bottom since the carrier will be up. If this is the case, I would send it back to them after duck season and let them fix it. It may also have to do with the system that lets you eject a round from the magazine without working the bolt rearward. If it is being overridden, it may be letting one out of the mag just before the shell is suppose to shoot out of the magazine and loading it and the one that is suppose to be loaded is the one dropping out. Either way, I would send it back and let them fix.

Oh beleive me I am going to send the truoublesome thing back. It is not dropping the shell, it is acually spitting it out like a spent hull three or so feet away from me. I have seen it out of the corner of my eye go right into the drink. Thanks for trying to help though, you have been a hundred times more helpful than Benelli.

Brandoniron,
Honestly, you really should keep up your thread at Tom Knapp.
Those Benelli reps do not want bad publicity!
Keep bringing it up. They want to look good for potential buyers.

Benellis really are not that expensive,. They are lower mid level if anything. Expensive is Krieghoff, Merkel, Cosmi, Rizzinni, Kolar, etc. I bought a K-80 SC two years ago and know this for a fact. hehehe
You have stated that the recoil spring has been cleaned with all traces of Cosmoline removed. Have you checked the magazine detent button?
Every gun maker even custom ones, can turn of a lemon. You might also try posting on the actual Benelli forum from Benellis website.
I have two SBE II''s and after hunts this year here, AL, SD, and Canada theyn have been nothing but Flawless. Aslo after owning just about every brand of semi-auto there are now 5 Benelli's in the safe(2 are my wife's). I like and trust them that much.
Atleast take it to a local gunsmith or give Benelli a chance to make it right.
