problems with 640

I have a 640 357 and several times a bullet has moved forward in the unfired case and jammed the cylinder.
This dosen't happen with 38 specials. What gives with this?

Joe,

The bullets are moving forward from the recoil. Actually the cases are backing away from the bullets from the inertia of the heavy .357 recoil. The cases probably don't have enough crimp. Are you shooting handloads? I haven't had this to happen with factory loads but I imagine recoil is pretty stout in that little cannon.

Have never had a problem like this with my 640. I have gone through many 100's of rounds, only have problem with cases not going into cylinder from being dirty. Situation is most likely from an improper crimp, hopefully not on your part.

If they are reloads, your crimp is not tight enough.

With these small, light guns and magnum ammo, you've pretty much GOT to use a roll-crimp and a bullet that has a crimping groove.

If this is happening with factory ammo, you need to get in touch with the manufacturer and describe what is going on.
